Compacting some gravel around the wooden posts will allow for adequate drainage. It will keep water from rotting the wood. It also extends the life of your decking.
If you want to lay your decking onto the ground, you will need to layer the area with some weed control fabric. It would be best if you put between 40 mm and 50 mm of gravel on top of the weed control fabric. Another method is to create some concrete pads so your decking will sit on top. It will reduce moisture seeping into the frames and causing any damage.
If you decide to build your decking on a beautiful flat surface, you probably won't have to raise it. However, you will still need to lay down some footings for the decking frame to sit on. The foundations you use can be as simple as some concrete blocks that are bedded onto the sand. You can also use gravel or cement if required.
